How does PN impact people’s lives?
- Often, peripheral neuropathy and the chronic pain it comes with can lead to mental health issues, and it’s important to address your mental health with the same attention you give your physical health
- PN can also impact relationships with partners, family, and friends, despite the stage of life at which you develop nerve damage — with the lack of awareness surrounding peripheral neuropathy, it often falls to patients to explain their condition to people they love
- As PN progresses, it might become necessary to downsize and move into a more accessible residence

Our Members Recommend
- “Advocate for yourself. Let people know what your limitations are and what you need. I encourage people in my life to ask as many questions as they want to, so that they can better understand what I’m going through. As a bonus, doing so also helps raise awareness for PN!” – Diva Parekh
- “I am retired, but I do volunteer with many groups. I always remember the 12 A’s: Acceptance, Advocacy, Adaptation, Attitude, Activities, Adjustments, Associations, Ask, Accreditations, Accounting, Alternatives, and Apothecary.” – Bill Porter
