Idiopathic
What is it?
- Many peripheral neuropathy cases remain idiopathic, which means that the cause remains unknown
- Often, idiopathic neuropathy can come from still-undiscovered autoimmune conditions or genetic mutations
- After concluding that a patient’s peripheral neuropathy is idiopathic, medical providers will often focus on mitigating the symptoms using diet, exercise, or pain management methods
How is it diagnosed?
- Peripheral neuropathy is classified as idiopathic if all other testing to find its cause comes back clear
- By participating in Natural History Studies like the Peripheral Neuropathy Research Registry, you can contribute to research that can help scientists learn more about idiopathic neuropathy
