Injury
What is it?
- Often, traumatic injuries like falls or sports injuries can cause painful peripheral nerve damage
- Depending on the type of injury, it could cause a range of symptoms, potentially affecting small fibers, large fibers, and autonomic nerves
- Treating the injury and using methods such as physical therapy and occupational therapy tend to help with such damage
How is it diagnosed?
- Depending on the type of injury, diagnosis can be done through the following tests:
- Electromyography (EMG)
- Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) studies
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- If an injury has caused damage to small nerve fibers, this can be diagnosed through cutaneous skin biopsies
- Doctors may also diagnose based on patient medical history and how symptoms present
