Lyme Disease
What is Lyme disease neuropathy?
- The tick-borne bacteria that causes Lyme disease can also affect the peripheral nervous system
- The longer that the Lyme disease infection lasts, the higher the chances of developing peripheral neuropathy
- Lyme disease-related peripheral neuropathy can often be treatable if caused early — with treatment of the disease and maintenance of proper nerve health, symptoms can fade
How is it diagnosed?
- Lyme disease typically manifests in three stages of severity; these are some common symptoms for each stage —
- Fatigue, fever and chills, muscle and joint pain, red circular rash, stiff neck, swollen lymph nodes
- Facial paralysis, irregular heartbeat, meningitis, numbness and pain in arms and legs, stiff neck, poor coordination
- Arthritis, swollen joints, muscle pain, difficulty sleeping and concentrating, memory loss, peripheral neuropathy symptoms
- If you suspect Lyme disease, get tested for it immediately
