Large Fiber Neuropathy
What is it?
- Large Fiber Neuropathy (LFN) is a condition that affects the large nerve fibers — these are the nerves that affect motor control and balance
- Symptoms of LFN can include balance issues, joint and muscle weakness, and reduced reflexive responses
- Some patients also experience burning pain or coldness and electric shock-like brief painful sensations
- Small Fiber Neuropathy can sometimes degenerate into Large Fiber Neuropathy
How is it diagnosed?
- LFN can be diagnosed using:
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Electromyography (EMG) studies
- Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) studies
- LFN can also be diagnosed by medical and a physical exam that involves functional neurophysiologic testing
