Hand controls may keep you in the driver’s seat
On Saturday, Nov. 2, the guest speaker for the monthly meeting will be Amanda Mendez, from the Driver Rehabilitation Center of Excellence (DRCE).
If you have been diagnosed with one or more medical conditions that have resulted in loss of physical, visual, cognitive or medical abilities OR if someone has told you to stop driving, you may be a good candidate for driver hand controls. This is equipment that is mounted in your automobile to help you drive without using your legs and feet.
The DCRE helps you evaluate your personal situation and then recommends a custom solution for your current vehicle. Giving up driving is a serious consideration, one that impacts your freedom. Moving to hand controls is a procedure that not only requires serious consideration but impacts your legal status as a driver.
Learn more about the newest adaptive equipment and techniques, and how these might apply to your specific condition.
