Dr. Greg Maassen, an avid bicyclist and PN sufferer, will launch a solo bicycle trip from Fletcher’s Boathouse (District of Columbia) on Saturday. He is headed for the West Coast, following the Eisenhower – Lincoln Highway Transcontinental Cycling Route, a new bike path connecting San Francisco and Washington, D.C. The trip will take about four months.
Along the way, he will be raising money for the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy, with a goal of $50,000.
Several years ago, Dr. Greg received a diagnosis of PN and was told the only treatment his neurologist could recommend was exercise. Greg decided he would not give up. Instead, he trained vigorously for the past year on an electric-powered bicycle, and now has taken on a considerable challenge: a 3400+ mile bike ride from DC to San Francisco.
His focus: to raise awareness for PN, emphasize the value of exercise in staying healthy, and showcasing the value and fun of biking.
A crowd of local well-wishers will gather at the boathouse to see him off at 9 am.
